Cold weather prompts LTHS District 205 to confirm in-person classes
Dr. Robert McBride Jr. Superintendent | Lockport Township High School District 205

Lockport Township High School District 205 has announced its plans for school operations amid a forecast of extremely cold weather. The National Weather Service predicts temperatures with wind chills ranging from -10 to -20 degrees through Tuesday morning.

Superintendent Robert McBride communicated that the district's decision regarding in-person learning on January 21, 2025, is based on several factors. "We have been testing our buses this morning and we feel confident that our buses will be running properly for school operations tomorrow," McBride stated, emphasizing the importance of transportation reliability.

The district also aims to align with feeder schools for consistency among families. Parents and guardians are reminded to ensure students dress appropriately for the severe weather conditions, as frostbite can occur within 10-15 minutes of exposure even when bundled up.

For bus riders, potential delays due to winter weather are possible. Students who drive should allow extra time in the morning to prepare their vehicles. Athletic events and after-school activities are expected to proceed as scheduled unless further changes are announced.

McBride expressed gratitude for the community's understanding and flexibility during these challenging conditions. For more information on emergency or weather-related closures, parents can visit the LTHS website.
