Fifty-one students from LTHS Design & Drafting participated in the 48th annual Joliet Junior College regional of the Illinois Design Educators Association competition on March 7, 2025. The event involved various Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Drafting contests where students had to solve design problems within a 90-minute timeframe. Teams worked on long-term projects since January, presenting their work to a panel that included architects, engineers, college instructors, and students.
The top two individuals in each category and first-place teams earned spots at the state competition at Illinois State University on April 12, 2025.
Among the winners were Maha Dissi who secured second place in Introductory CAD, Nathaniel Rowell who took first place in Machine CAD, and Brooke Kemp who came second in the same category. David Krzysiak achieved his fourth consecutive win by placing first in 3D Modeling while Timothy Porrey finished second. In Assembly Modeling, Ducan Kenny-Benson claimed first place with Gabriel Sot taking second and Luke Mazza third.
Stephen Reuter scored perfectly to win first place in 3D Machine CAD while Justin Woracheck placed third. In Architecture 3D, Liam Zimmerman was first followed by Gavin Monreal and Juliana Reyes. The Engineering Design Team composed of Kyle Stevens, Joseph Stroner, and Jackson Maloney won their division. The Architecture Design Team of Gavin Nusko, Mara Kubis, and Aubree Tovar also secured first place with this being Chloe's third consecutive win.
The students prepared extensively outside class for this competition under the guidance of teachers Jeff Brown, Rodger Ebert, Corey Duzan, and Dan Mostyn. They now aim for success at the state level against other top qualifiers from different regionals.
Best wishes are extended to these state-bound students as they prepare for April's competition.
