Fairmont School District plans tax levy increase; hearing set for December

A public hearing to discuss a proposed property tax levy increase for Fairmont School District 89 is scheduled for December 18, 2024. The meeting will take place at 5:30 p.m. in the Fairmont School Board Room, located at 735 Green Garden Place, Lockport, Illinois.

In the previous year, corporate and special purpose property taxes extended or abated amounted to $4,085,491.42. For the upcoming year of 2024, the proposed amount for these taxes is $4,370,860. This proposal marks a 6.98% increase compared to last year.

For debt service and public building commission leases in 2023, no property taxes were extended. The estimation remains unchanged for 2024 with an anticipated $0 extension for these categories.

Overall, the total property taxes extended in 2023 were $4,085,491.42. The estimated total for 2024 is set at $4,370,860—reflecting a similar increase of 6.98% from the prior year.
