Free summer meal program supports families in the community
Elisabeth Patton, Principal | Fairmont School District 89

Summer meal programs are set to provide free meals for children and teens throughout the summer at various locations in the community. This initiative is designed to offer convenience and financial relief to families by reducing grocery shopping and meal preparation efforts, while also supporting local schools and communities.

The program offers free meals to individuals aged 18 and under, with no need for applications or registration. However, it should be noted that "Grab and Go" meals will not be available this year. Meals must be consumed on-site within the cafeteria premises.

One of the participating sites is Fairmont School, located at 735 Green Garden Pl., Lockport, IL 60441. Meals will be served from Monday through Thursday between 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., with access provided through Door 9.

These meals adhere to USDA nutrition guidelines, ensuring they are healthy options for young participants. For those seeking additional meal site locations nearby, information can be accessed by visiting SummerMealsIllinios.org or texting FOOD to 304-304.
